Pirates Get Bad News With Chad Kuhl Injury Update

The Pittsburgh Pirates' 2021 season has gone better than expected so far. They may be tied for last place in the NL Central, but at 8-10 they're only a half game back from the Chicago Cubs for third and 1.5 games back from the Cincinnati Reds for second.

They got some bad news on Thursday, however, with pitcher Chad Kuhl being placed on the 10-day IL with a right shoulder injury.

This injury could help explain Kuhl's recent struggles. He's sporting a 6.32 ERA through four starts, and he gave up a career-high 7 walks in just 3 2/3 innings on April 13.

In a corresponding move, the Pirates have recalled Geoff Hartlieb. The right-hander has pitched 57 1/3 career major league innings, struggling to the tune of a 6.91 ERA in that time.
