Mascots have always been a part of baseball, but you can safely say their appearances have definitely improved over the years. While the Phillie Phanatic or Wally the Green Monster may still scare some little kids, they are in no comparison to this throwback Chicago Cubs' mascot.

A photo has made its rounds across Reddit and Twitter lately depicting the 1908 Chicago Cubs team standing with what seems to be their terrifying mascot. It seems to be some kind of mix between beast, squirrel, and bear. I mean, this is the kind of image that causes nightmares these days.

The Cubs toyed with all kinds of different bear mascots (including live cubs) in the early twentieth century, but nothing quite like the one pictured here. However, it is worth being noted that the Cubs did win the World Series in 1908. Maybe the mascot brought more luck than people thought.

While this mascot wasn't used for very long, it definitely left a lasting impression on Cubs' fans as well as general sports fans around the world. If you ever need a good scare, look no further and come back to this picture right here.
