Philadelphia Phillies second baseman Jean Segura pulled up limping after running to first base Tuesday and has now been placed on the 10-day injured list. The Phillies were hoping it was nothing major, but Segura being diagnosed with a strained right quad forced them to make a move.

Segura has been a mainstay in Philadelphia's lineup this season and was one of the hottest hitters on the team before going down. He is under contract through the 2023 season and is one of the best contact hitters in the league when healthy.

Losing Segura will be tough. He was slashing .333/.359/.450 with a homer, four doubles and a stolen base in his first 64 trips to the plate this season. Segura's consistency has been on show for the last two seasons as he has hit .276 and scored 107 runs over the last two years for the Phillies.

While he is likely out for the remainder of April, this isn't an injury that usually comes with a long recovery time. Segura should be back within a month and take his spot in the starting lineup once again. For now, the Phillies will use a rotation of Brad Miller and Scott Kingery over at second base.

Miller hit a 3-run home run in his start on Tuesday night and offers some intriguing upside as the team's utility man. On the other side, Kingery will look to bounce back from a poor 2020 season and provide a spark off the bench for this Philadelphia squad moving forward.
