The 2022 MLB season saw the Philadelphia Phillies finish two wins short of taking home their first World Series title since 2008. Though things didn't go as planned, Phillies fans have high hopes for their team in 2023, especially with Open Day less than a week away.

For those wondering who the Phillies are sending to the mound next week, fear not: the MLB revealed all 30 Opening Day starters on Friday.

Phillies Opening Day Starter 2023

Aaron Nola has been tasked with facing the Texas Rangers at 4:05 p.m. ET on Opening Day. The decision is far from shocking considering that Nola has started in Philadelphia's first outing in each of the previous five campaigns.

While Nola's 11-13 record last season was far from his best, he still pitched to a 3.25 ERA — the second-best mark of his career. He also led the National League in walks per nine innings pitched (1.3) while pacing the MLB with 8.1 strikeouts per win. His efforts saw him finish fourth in NL Cy Young voting.

Despite this being the 29-year-old's ninth MLB campaign, Nola has never faced the Rangers before. Having said that, he's made 26 inter-league starts over his career, going 9-10 with a 3.49 ERA and 1.164 WHIP.

Winning won't be easy for Nola and the Phillies, though. He has the tough challenge of needing to outduel two-time Cy Young winner Jacob deGrom, who joined the Rangers on a five-year, $150 million deal this offseason.
