The Philadelphia Phillies fell two wins short of a World Series title in 2022. Despite coming that close to winning it all, the team heads into the offseason with plenty of things to address on its roster. However, none may be bigger than the need for an upgrade at shortstop.
The Phillies have long been rumored to be one of the teams at the forefront of the star shortstop market this offseason, a market that includes Carlos Correa, Xander Bogaerts, Dansby Swanson and Trea Turner.
Trea Turner Phillies News
While Philadelphia has several excellent options to choose from, MLB insider Jon Morosi is reporting that the Phillies have emerged as the favorites for Turner.
This isn't too surprising, as Turner always seemed like the most logical fit for Philadelphia. We have heard for some time that Turner has a desire to move back east, plus his wife is originally from the region as well.
Combining all of that with the Phillies' need at the position and their ability to spend big, Turner to Philly seems like the most natural fit for both sides. That being said, Turner will obviously have other offers and other suitors, and no one outside of Turner, his family and his agent truly knows what he's thinking right now.
If Turner does choose to sign elsewhere, Philadelphia has other options to pivot to. It shouldn't be too hard to recruit new players when you just made the World Series, play in a big market and are poised to contend for years to come.
