The J.J. Watt free agency frenzy is officially over, with the star defensive end spurning his home state in favor of Arizona (and a huge amount of money). The Green Bay Packers were among the favorites to land Watt, but now they'll need to turn their attention towards new targets to improve their pash rush.
With that in mind, here are three free agents the Packers could sign after missing out on Watt.
1. Jurrell Casey
Veteran defensive lineman Jurrell Casey was recently cut by the Denver Broncos, meaning he's in search of a new team in 2021. A five-time Pro Bowler, Casey appeared in just three games for Denver during the 2020 campaign. Still, prior to that down year, he recorded at least 5.0 sacks and double-digit QB hits in each season since 2013. Coming off of an injury, the Packers could nab a proven pass rusher with the potential to have a big comeback on an affordable deal.
2. Ryan Kerrigan
Ryan Kerrigan can still make an impact even as he approaches 33 years old this season. He recorded 5.5 sacks for the Washington Football Team in 2020 along with 5 tackles for loss and 6 QB hits. His 13 QB pressures last season would've placed fourth on Green Bay's roster, and he had 25 pressures the year before, so it's clear he could help the team even as he enters the later stages of his career. He'd be a great veteran depth piece to add who could boost the Packers' pass rush.
3. Larry Ogunjobi
Larry Ogunjobi is a promising young pass-rushing talent set to hit the open market this offseason. While he posted just 2.5 sacks in 2020, he had back-to-back seasons with 5.5 sacks from 2018-2019 along with 28 combined QB hits and 45 combined pressures, showcasing his potential. A down season in sacks and tackles for loss may mean he won't command top dollar, but the Packers should pounce on the chance to add an affordable pash rusher who could really take off in a featured role.
