The Carolina Panthers traded away face of the franchise Christian McCaffrey last week, sending him to the San Francisco 49ers for a bevy of future draft capital. The post-trade fallout revealed several NFL teams were both calling and in the running for the star RB, including the defending Super Bowl champs.

According to NFL insider Dov Kleiman, the Los Angeles Rams made an intriguing offer that involved running back Cam Akers. Ultimately, Carolina turned down this deal.

Kleiman reports the final offer from Los Angeles involved a second- and third-round pick in 2023, a fourth- and fifth-round pick in 2024, and Akers.

Instead, Carolina opted for San Francisco's offer of second-, third- and fourth-round picks in 2023, plus a fifth-round spot in 2024. The Panthers' front office is clearly confident enough in the current backfield combination of Chuba Hubbard, D'Onta Foreman and rookie Raheem Blackshear for the time being.

The formula worked in Week 7 when Carolina pulled off the upset of the year so far with a stunning 21-3 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who were 13.5-point favorites coming into the game.
