Padres News: San Diego Gets Bad Yu Darvish Injury Update

The San Diego Padres' strong pitching corps has taken some hits recently. Relievers Drew Pomeranz and Emilio Pagan are nursing injuries, meanwhile starters Blake Snell and Dinelson Lamet are both on the 10-day injured list.
Now ace Yu Darvish is headed to the IL as well.
Yu Darvish has been placed on the 10-day IL with left hip inflammation. Move is retroactive to 7/9, which means he won’t be able to start until the fourth game after the break.

Yu Darvish Injury Update
Darvish has landed on the 10-day injured list with left hip inflammation. The upcoming All-Star break will give him a few days to recover, but at minimum his first start won't come until Monday, July 19 against the Atlanta Braves. And that's assuming Darvish is ready to go right when he's eligible, which isn't a guarantee.
San Diego's ace picking up an injury just before the second-half schedule starts is less than ideal. He's gone 7-3 this season with a 3.09 ERA and 125 strikeouts across 18 starts, which earned him his fifth career All-Star nod.
The Padres need to start out strong following the break and getting Darvish back to 100% will be key to that. They have a 4.5-game lead over the Cincinnati Reds for the final NL Wild Card spot and own the fourth-best odds to win the World Series at +850, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
