Tuesday's 6 p.m. ET MLB trade deadline is steadily approaching and while plenty of significant deals have already gone down, the blockbuster trade of Juan Soto is still up in the air. While the Los Angeles Dodgers, St. Louis Cardinals and San Diego Padres are reportedly the three teams still in the sweepstakes for Soto's services, Tuesday morning, it is believed the Padres are the leaders of that pack.
Padres Trade Rumors
However, according to Barry Svrluga, not only are they believed to be the leaders for Soto, but also for Washington Nationals star first basemen Josh Bell. Acquiring Soto will take a king's ransom in itself, but adding Bell to that would be a haul of prospects and players unlike anything the league has ever seen.
Padres Juan Soto Rumors
The Padres always seem to be at the forefront of trade discussions anytime a star becomes available over the last few seasons and this trade deadline is no different.
Padres Josh Bell Rumors
Acquiring Soto and Bell would not only signal the Padres going all in now, but for the next handful of years as well, while giving them an incredible foundation of Soto, Fernando Tatis and Manny Machado for the better part of a decade (assuming Soto agrees to an extension at some point after the trade).
Bell and Soto would provide instant upgrades both in areas of need for this already talented Padres team. If they can pull this off, it should and would raise their World Series odds. As of right now, the Padres sit at +1700 to win the 2022 World Series, according to FanDuel Sportsbook. Which is good enough for the seventh-best odds in baseball.
