The Green Bay Packers have a lot of decisions to make this offseason, but the biggest one is surrounding quarterback Aaron Rodgers. While the decision is mostly up to Rosgers whether or not he will be back in Green Bay next season, some reports indicate the Packers are hoping he moves on, either through retirement or a trade request.

Either way, Green Bay needs to arm itself with as much cap space as possible to try and improve a team that underperformed in 2022. On Saturday morning, the Packers did just that by restructuring the contracts of Jaire Alexander and Preston Smith, which freed up a combined roughly $16 million in cap space.

As of Saturday morning, Spotrac.com lists the Packers with about $5.9 million in cap space, slightly above the current league average.

Alexander and Smith are both huge parts of the Packers' defense, and using them to be able to free up cap space is great for Green Bay, who surely doesn't want to see either of them walk out the door for years to come.

If the Packers hope to make a splash this offseason, this won't be the last cap-freeing maneuver they make, more moves are definitely to come, regardless of what happens with Rodgers.
