Baltimore Orioles prospect Gunnar Henderson has been hitting the cover off the baseball throughout the entire 2022 season and it culminated with a rare achievement on Tuesday night. The 21-year-old hit for the cycle with the Triple-A Norfolk Tides and his masterful performance led to an 8-2 victory.

Henderson became the ninth player in the minor leagues to hit for the cycle this season and the first Norfolk slugger to do so since Timo Perez in 2000. He only needed four at-bats to get the job done as he singled in the first inning, tripled in the third, homered in the fifth and doubled in the sixth.

"This is pretty unreal. It really didn’t hit me in the moment. Just being able to sit down and take it all in, it’s pretty awesome. Just really special."

A big night at the plate is nothing new for baseball's No. 43 prospect, who is slashing .329/.448/.629 over his last 19 games since being called up from Double-A. It was a change of pace considering he found success against left-handed pitchers, though, which had previously been a gray area for him.

Overall, Henderson has logged more walks (56) than strikeouts (55) this season and racked up 50 RBIs across 65 total games. The young infielder may make his MLB debut before the 2022 MLB season comes to an end, especially since the Orioles sit 6.5 games back of an AL Wild Card spot.

Seeing Henderson go up against the sports' best pitchers would give fans a glimpse into what Baltimore's future could look like. It's one that remains bright with a strong farm system.
