The Milwaukee Brewers aren't feeling too good about themselves following an 8-7 walk-off loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates on Wednesday night. Unfortunately, the surprising defeat is the least of the Brewers' worries after catcher Omar Narvaez was pulled towards the end of the game.

Milwaukee's medical staff eventually ruled that Narvaez exited during the eighth inning due to a quadriceps strain.

Omar Narvaez Injury Update

Making things even worse, the veteran was placed on the 10-day IL on Thursday.

Milwaukee optioned fellow catcher Pedro Severino just hours before Wednesday's game, leaving the team's backstop depth looking somewhat shallow until Narvaez is healthy.

Despite being an All-Star just last year, Narvaez has been in and out of the Brewers' lineup throughout the 2022 MLB season. The result has been his suiting up in 60 of 104 games thus far, recording four home runs, 18 RBIs and a .237/.324/.363 slash line.

The switch-hitting Victor Caratini is expected to be the Brewers' starting catcher for the foreseeable future. The 28-year-old has amassed seven HRs, 20 RBIs and a .230 batting average through 54 games, while also owning a .993 fielding percentage over 376.2 innings behind home plate.

Hopefully, Narvaez isn't away from the Brewers for too long. He's needed to play a key role down the stretch if Milwaukee wants to increase their NL Central lead.
