ESPN recently released its newest 2021 college football power rankings using the football power index system (FPI). It is no surprise that the Alabama Crimson Tide lead the way at the top, but Oklahoma fans will be excited to see the Sooners come in ranked at No. 2.

This is interesting to see as the Sooners have just the fifth-best odds to win the National Championship at +800, according to college football odds posted on FanDuel Sportsbook. That mark trails Alabama (+250), Clemson (+400), Georgia (+450) and Ohio State (+600).

Oklahoma in the Power Rankings

The Sooners put together an up-and-down 2020 season, finishing with a 9-2 record, but still won the Big 12 conference. They finished with an impressive 55-20 Cotton Bowl victory over the Florida Gators.

As the team to beat in the Big 12 once again, Oklahoma's offense is lead by quarterback Spencer Rattler. Rattler is the current odds leader to win the Heisman Trophy next season and threw for 3,031 yards and 28 touchdowns in 2020. He also added 160 yards and 6 touchdowns on the ground.

Head coach Lincoln Riley knows that this team will have to work hard to make the College Football Playoff. They are set to lose their starting running back and multiple defensive starters to the NFL, but Oklahoma's returning receiving core is as good as any in the country.

No matter what, this Sooners team is expected to be one of the best in the nation next season and the hype that is surrounding them is starting to become real. Fans are sure to be in for an exhilarating season in one way or another.
