We didn’t have to wait long for the first bench-clearing situation of the baseball season. The Cincinnati Reds and St. Louis Cardinals got face-to-face on Saturday, and Castellanos was at the heart of the situation.
He aggressively flexed on pitcher Jake Woodford after sliding into home plate, likely in retaliation for Woodford hitting Castellanos with a pitch earlier in the inning. Cardinals’ catcher Yadier Molina took offense to Castellanos’ actions — which isn’t surprising — but the situation luckily wasn't as bad as it could've been.
Still, Castellanos was handed a two-game suspension from the MLB. He was the only player to be disciplined, and his suspension was scheduled to start on Monday. That said, he will appeal the decision, which means he should be in the lineup tonight against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Castellanos is off to an excellent start this season, posting a .545 batting average with 2 home runs through his first three games.
The Reds are currently listed as -158 favorites against the Pirates on FanDuel Sportsbook.
