It's Pro Bowl Sunday in Orlando, and with NFL fans left waiting to see who will take Super Bowl LIV between the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers, we get a bit of entertainment to hold us over till next weekend.
In what most expect to be a high-octane, heavy passing, 2020 Pro Bowl, the counter to the offensive MVP odds (which favored QB and WR) seem to be defensive playmakers in the secondary. Sitting at the top of the Defensive MVP odds on FanDuel Sportsbook are corners and safeties. This fits with last year's result, as New York Jets safety Jamal Adams (+1600 in 2020) won the honors.
"Prez" is currently ranked sixth in this year's race, with cornerback Stephon Gilmore (+1200) getting the best odds. In between the two are Harrison Smith (+1300), Tre'Davious White (+1300), Minkah Fitzpatrick (+1400) and Eddie Jackson (+1500), who all play in the secondary.
The best odds for a player that is not a safety or corner belong to Von Miller (+1600), with Cameron Jordan (+1700), Chandler Jones (+1700), Jaylon Smith (+1800) and Danielle Hunter (+2000) not far behind. The Broncos' edge rusher, Miller, won the award in 2018, and has been a staple of the Pro Bowl during his NFL tenure.
Some interesting names at lower odds are Earl Thomas (+1800), Marshon Lattimore (+2000), T.J. Watt (+2100), Shaquil Barrett (+2200), Za'Darius Smith (+2700) and Darius Leonard (+3100), who are all coming off particularly impressive regular season campaigns.
It will likely come down to who gets a defensive touchdown or makes a couple of key high-impact plays on turnovers. The Pro Bowl might not exactly be a defensive showcase, but like on the other side of the ball, these guys will be looking to come up with big-time highlight plays.
