The New Orleans Saints have one of the fiercest defenses in the league, and their play on that side of the football has helped land them the No. 2 seed in the NFC entering the NFL Playoffs. However, it appears that defense will be without a key player heading into their Wild Card Weekend game against the Chicago Bears.

Defensive end Trey Hendrickson has been ruled out against the Bears due to a neck injury.

Hendrickson sat out in Week 16 before returning to the lineup in Week 17, but his absence shows that he likely wasn't 100% in the team's regular-season finale.

The loss of Hendrickson is huge for the Saints' defense. The edge rusher is tied with Los Angeles Rams star Aaron Donald for the second-most sacks (13.5) in the entire league. Hendrickson has racked up 25 tackles and 1 forced fumble this year to go along with his staggering sack total.

Hendrickson only played in 53% of the team's defensive snaps this year, but his impact was incredibly clear. New Orleans will now have to lean on Marcus Davenport (1.5 sacks in 11 games in 2020) in Hendrickson's absence.

Chicago enters the game as a 9.5-point underdog, according to FanDuel Sportsbook, but the loss of Hendrickson could help the underdogs in their quest for an upset.
