Nationals News: Stephen Strasburg Injury Update is Encouraging for Washington

The Washington Nationals' pitching staff is suffering a mean case of the injury bug as the month of June rolls on. Currently, the Nationals are without two of their top starting pitchers in Stephen Strasburg and Max Scherzer along with the absence of one of their best relievers in Daniel Hudson.
On the field, this team continues to flounder with their disappointing 29-35 overall record while they trail the first-place New York Mets by 7.5 games in the NL East. As this trio of starting pitchers continues to nurse injuries, the Nationals did receive a positive sign on starting pitcher Strasburg.
In more encouraging news, Stephen Strasburg is playing catch in the outfield. Believe that’s the first time he’s done that since going on the IL with nerve irritation in his neck.

Stephen Strasburg Injury News
According to Nationals reporter Mark Zuckerman, Strasburg was seen playing catch in the outfield. He reported this may have been the first time seeing the 32-year-old right-hander doing so since he went on the 10-day IL on June 2nd.
Nothing concrete has been announced about a Strasburg return, but at the very least, this is a positive sign. The former No. 1 overall draft pick has missed significant time in 2021, dealing with both this latest nerve issue in his neck and a shoulder injury earlier in the season. As a result, Strasburg has started just 5 games, throwing 21.2 innings with a 4.75 ERA.
The Nationals currently own long shot odds to win their division (+2800), according to the latest MLB odds on FanDuel Sportsbook. Despite the injuries, Washington has the 10th-best staff ERA in all of baseball (3.48).
Getting this pitching staff back to full strength could help the Nationals make some noise down the stretch.
