NFL minicamps give rookies a chance to make an immediate impression on the coaching staff and showcase why they deserve a spot on the team. It looks like cornerback Nate Hobbs is taking full advantage of his opportunity as he continues to turn heads for the Las Vegas Raiders.

The Raiders selected Hobbs in the fifth round of the 2021 NFL Draft in order to build depth on defense. However, he could move his way up the depth chart if he keeps up his current level of production. Hobbs has a shot to push veteran Nevin Lawson for a backup role in the secondary.

In fact, the 21-year-old playmaker got a lot of reps at slot corner during minicamp and was praised by both starting cornerback Trayvon Mullen and defensive coordinator Gus Bradley. Bradley even went as far as saying Hobbs was "ahead of the curve" at his position.

Hobbs played four college seasons at Illinois racking up 166 tackles (12.5 for loss) and 3 interceptions across 38 games played. He also posted 11 pass breakups and 2 forced fumbles while on his way to being named an honorable mention to the All-Big Ten team in 2019.

It's always exciting to see a draft pick outperform expectations. The Raiders head into the fall with odds set at +350 to make the playoffs and odds set at +7500 to win the Super Bowl, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
