Najee Harris was one of the bright spots in an uneventful 2021 NFL season for the Pittsburgh Steelers, leading the league with 381 total touches for 1,667 yards from scrimmage and 10 touchdowns. Unfortunately, the 24-year-old appears to be making a mistake heading into his second NFL season.
The Athletic's Mark Kaboly reported on Tuesday that Harris has increased his mass and now weighs 244 pounds. That's a 14-pound increase from his listed weight last season, which could ultimately hamper what made him successful as a rookie.
Najee Harris Weight Rumors
For reference, the Tennessee Titans' Derrick Henry — one of the bigger RBs in the league — weighed in at 247 pounds in 2021, but he stands two inches taller than Harris. Henry's downfield style of play works for him because of his frame, which the Steelers rusher just doesn't have.
Added weight can also lead to a bigger chance of injury if Harris' body isn't used to it. The last thing the Steelers need is for him to get sidelined at any point next season, especially with the lackluster RB depth behind him.
Harris has all the talent in the world and all eyes will be on him to see if he can effectively use his new body. Just don't be surprised if changing up what worked last year leads to worse results in 2022.
