When the Pittsburgh Steelers drafted running back Najee Harris in the NFL Draft, it was something nearly everybody saw coming. Pittsburgh was in desperate need of a running back and the talented Harris was the perfect answer.

In classic Mike Tomlin and Steelers fashion, Pittsburgh went to their new feature back early and often (19 opportunities) in the 23-16 win over the Buffalo Bills. Harris may have not popped from a fantasy points standpoint, but his Week 1 usage fully solidified his 2021 fantasy value.

Harris saw a total of 19 opportunities on 16 rushing attempts and 3 targets. In fact, the rookie running back saw 100% of the Steelers' Week 1 running back snap rates. Not another name on the running back depth chart saw action.

The rookie back did only manage 45 rushing yards and 1 reception for 4 yards with 0 touchdowns, but that shouldn't discourage fantasy managers. His 19 opportunities will continue to increase as he finds his footing in the league.

Harris' 19 total opportunities is reminiscent of workhorse backs of the Steelers' past. Le'Veon Bell averaged 26.2 opportunities per game from 2013 to 2017 and Willie Parker saw 22.0 per game in 2007 and 2008. During Bell's tenure, he finished as a top-3 running back option for fantasy managers is three of those five seasons. All of this points to good things to come for Harris.
