The Cleveland Browns' defenders held a players-only meeting on Tuesday to help turn things around following their collapse against the New York Jets in Week 2. Well, it turns out that it was the right call as the Browns bounced back with a 29-17 victory against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday.
Browns defensive end Myles Garrett was asked about the players-only meeting after the game. Always a colorful personality, Garrett hilariously replied by saying that his teammates only talked about "pretty girls and fast cars."
Cleveland Browns News
Usually, players-only meetings are a sign that a locker room disaster is right around the corner — especially less than a month into the season. Fortunately, things worked out in the end for the Browns, leaving time to tell if talking about girls and cars can lead to more victories.
Cleveland's defense was certainly better against the Steelers than it was against the Jets. The Browns held the Steelers to just 308 total offensive yards and a possession time of just 23:51 (39.8%). Furthermore, Cleveland stopped Pittsburgh on eight of the latter's nine third downs.
The Browns defense was supposed to be one of the team's strong points this season, but that hasn't been the case. They've surrendered an average of 24 points through three games, ranking 10th-worst in the NFL. Needless to say, more performances like the one on Thursday are needed.
The Browns have some extra time off before their Week 4 matchup against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday, Oct. 2. The Falcons aren't a great team, but the Browns did lose to the Jets, so they can't afford to take them lightly.
