Momentum Building for Packers' Trade of Aaron Rodgers

The upcoming offseason is going to answer a lot of questions that Green Bay Packers fans have about the organization, especially at the quarterback position. NFL insider Adam Schefter explains that momentum is continuing to build around a trade of Aaron Rodgers for more than just one reason.

Aaron Rodgers Trade Rumors

Schefter notes that financial motives, the state of the Packers franchise and feelings of both Rodgers and his teammates are all being taken into account when it comes to a possible trade. Keep in mind the Packers are currently slated to be more than $16 million over the NFL salary cap next season.

Rodgers is due $59.5 million in guaranteed cash in 2023 and $49.25 million in 2024. It's important to note that the majority of his 2023 salary is an option bonus that the team can choose to exercise at any point from the first day of the new league year until one day before Green Bay's season opener.

That caveat provides both sides with more than enough time to seek a trade partner. Rodgers took part in an interview on "The Pat Macafee Show" this past week and explained he is "open to all honest and direct conversations" with the Packers. The four-time All-Pro is not shying away from the rumors.

Rodgers has spent all 18 of his NFL seasons with the Packers and seeing him don a different uniform in 2023 would definitely be exciting. There would be no shortage of interested teams, either, as the 39-year-old was named the NFL MVP in 2020 and 2021. Rodgers still has some gas left in the tank.
