The Texas Rangers have done what they can over the past two offseasons to kick their rebuild into high gear. Last winter they signed stars Marcus Semien and Corey Seager to shore up their middle infield for the foreseeable future.
This winter, they made another major splash by signing top starting pitcher Jacob deGrom to a five-year contract. However, the Rangers don't seem to be done. The team is still willing to spend and trying to build a winning team in their new ballpark.
One name Texas has been connected to is outfielder Michael Conforto.
Texas Rangers Free Agency Rumors
Conforto sat out the entire 2022 season after sustaining a shoulder injury last offseason. Prior to the injury, Conforto was looking for a long-term deal over $100 million. Now, Conforto might be able to be signed on a short-term prove-it deal before trying for a big contract again next offseason.
Prior to 2022, Conforto was an All-Star in 2017 and slashed .255/.356/.468 with 132 home runs with the New York Mets from 2015-2021.
It seems like a lot of teams are in on Conforto, but at what price and at what length? We should find out soon. Whichever team signs Conforto is taking on a big risk, but it could also bring a huge payoff.
