San Francisco Giants Trade Rumors

Mike Petriello mentioned the Giants as a possible landing spot for Arizona Diamondbacks' slugger Christian Walker. It's a logical pairing when taking into consideration how poorly Brandon Belt has performed this summer. The veteran first baseman is slashing just .227/.333/.395 across 57 games.

Meanwhile, Walker is on pace to set a career-best mark in home runs. He has smacked 22 long balls across 94 games to go along with 44 runs scored and 49 RBI. What may be most impressive about his efforts is that his walk rate (13%) and strikeout rate (19%) are better than the league averages.

Walker is an intriguing trade target because his impact could be made beyond 2022. He isn't a free agent until after the 2024 season and plays a great defense on the diamond. Manager Gabe Kapler needs players like Walker to keep up with the hard-hitting Dodgers and Padres within the division.

While the Giants could go a number of ways at the deadline, it is clear that they will need to upgrade at the plate if they want any chance of winning their ninth World Series title.
