The Minnesota Vikings may be ready to hit the panic button after losing to Dallas Cowboys backup quarterback Cooper Rush in primetime football. There were a number of plays and decisions that needed to go differently, but head coach Mike Zimmer took on the biggest blame thanks to his fourth quarter timeout snafu.

Following the game, Zimmer was brutally honest about his mistake.

"Yeah, I screwed up. I forgot that I called one. Somebody yelled at me. I knew the play they were running. Really the same play they hit down the middle against us for the long touchdown. So somebody said, 'Call timeout.' I did. The official wasn't supposed to grant it. They're supposed to not grant it. Anyway, it's not his fault. So (we) ended up getting a five-yard penalty."

Protecting a 3-point fourth quarter lead, Minnesota forced Dallas into a third-and-16 with a chance to ice the game. The Vikings called a timeout and wanted to leave enough time on the clock if Dallas scored to tie or go ahead.

Zimmer then called a second straight timeout, which is illegal by NFL rules, after seeing Dallas line up for this third down conversion. A 5-yard penalty ensued and Dallas eventually converted the third-and-11 before Rush tossed the game-winning touchdowns a few plays later.

Minnesota moves to 3-4 on the season after this brutal loss and sees the first-place Green Bay Packers (7-1) widening the gap. The Vikings own just +1100 odds to win the NFC North according to NFL odds on FanDuel Sportsbook.
