The Tennessee Titans' Week 2 beatdown on Monday Night Football has fans desperate to see some changes. Offensive coordinator Todd Downing, in particular, has come under fire after his unit appears to have taken a major step back from the 2021 campaign.

Head coach Mike Vrabel remains committed to Downing, though, which has frustrated some who don't believe he's the answer.

Tennessee Titans News

Vrabel said "that's not something we're going to do right now" when asked about making changes to his coaching staff. This prompted several fans on social media to compare Vrabel to former Titans head coach Mike Mularkey, who infamously stuck by Terry Robiskie as his OC despite underwhelming results that eventually led to them both being fired at the end of the 2017 season.

It's fair to say Downing hasn't exactly impressed as an offensive coordinator during his coaching career. As an OC, his offenses have never ranked higher than 17th in yards or 15th in points, which is the kind of mediocrity a contender can't afford in today's NFL. Tennessee is 27th and 28th in those marks, respectively, this season.

If the Titans' struggles continue, the 2023 season could end up becoming a major reset for the franchise, and one Vrabel may not be around to lead.

Titans Playoff Odds 2022

Oddsmakers seem to have some optimism that Tennessee can turn things around, potentially starting with Week 3's home clash against the 0-2 Las Vegas Raiders. NFL odds on FanDuel Sportsbook list the Titans as slight underdogs at +144 to make the playoffs, which is encouraging despite opening the year 0-2. They also still own the second-best odds to win the AFC South at +200, behind the Indianapolis Colts (+130) and ahead of the Jacksonville Jaguars (+310) and Houston Texans (+1200).
