Before Thursday, Mike Davis looked primed to operate with a ton of volume in the Atlanta Falcons backfield. Davis was poised to go unchallenged for first-team reps, but that might've changed when Falcons management signed Wayne Gallman.

Mike Davis Fantasy Outlook
Davis still projects as the team's No. 1 running back, but with new head coach Arthur Smith in town, expect Gallman to have an opportunity to compete for reps. Atlanta brought in Davis after his first full season as a first-team running back in the wake of Christian McCaffrey's injury with the Carolina Panthers.
Gallman spent the first four years of his NFL career with the New York Giants and they were inconsistent at best. However, the fifth-year pro is fresh off a career-year in which he tallied 796 yards from scrimmage and 6 rushing touchdowns on 147 attempts.
Davis also notched 6 rushing touchdown in 2020 and proved a viable receiving threat with 59 receptions for 373 yards and 2 touchdowns. Prior to the signing, Davis' average draft position seemed slightly undervalued at RB22 considering his clear-cut No. 1 role, according to PPR data from FantasyPros.

But, this situation simply gets a little more complicated for the first-year Falcons tailback. Early on, Davis should garner most of the first-team reps, but there's no reason that Gallman can't impress his new coaching staff enough to carve out a role.
Fantasy managers may want to consider adding Gallman as a handcuff if Davis is already on your roster. Gallman's current ADP is listed at RB81, but expect that number to tick up in the coming days.
