The New York Mets continue to stand strong despite injuries testing their roster's limits. A strong starting rotation and above-average bullpen has lifted New York to a 36-29 record, good for first in the NL East and 4.0 games ahead of second place.
However, the bullpen could take a hit with Robert Gsellman's latest injury.
Robert Gsellman Injury Update
Gsellman has suffered a right lat strain that will require tests to determine the severity. Given how important that muscle is in pitching, it's not hard to imagine the righty ending up on the injured list. And the location of the injury is certainly a cause for concern considering he missed a chunk of time last year with triceps tendinitis on the same side.
Gsellman sports a 3.71 ERA (seventh-best on the team) this season with 15 strikeouts, 11 earned runs across and 7 walks across 26.2 innings pitched. Losing the nearly 28-year-old veteran would be a blow as the Mets try to hold off their competition in the NL East.
