The New York Mets are one MLB team that desperately needs a bit of good luck on their side. That may have happened with the latest injury update to catcher James McCann. According to reports, New York is "optimistic" that McCann will avoid an injured list stint with his current back spasms.

Manager Luis Rojas even said that his backstop would be available off of the bench in Thursday night's 4-1 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers.

While McCann didn't end up seeing any action in Thursday's game, this is still a sigh of relief for Mets fans. New York has been one of the team's hardest hit by the injury bug in 2021.

In the middle of a rough stretch, the Mets will need every bit of offense they can muster to help turn things around. New York sits in third place in the NL East standings, trailing the Atlanta Braves by 5.0 games.

On the year, McCann has appeared in 99 games and slashed .240/.303/.357 with 9 home runs and 35 RBI. His RBI total ranks fourth on the team.

Currently, the Mets hold +600 odds to win the NL East, according to MLB odds on FanDuel Sportsbook. There's more than enough time in the regular season for New York to make one last postseason push, especially with a healthy McCann behind the plate.
