Mets Have Discussed Trade With White Sox for All-Star

The New York Mets have already spent a ton of money this offseason, signing the likes of Justin Verlander, Brandon Nimmo, Edwin Diaz and more. The team is still looking to add, however, based on a report that the Mets have contacted the Chicago White Sox about a potential trade.

New York Mets Trade Rumors
New York is reportedly targeting All-Star reliever Liam Hendriks, who is widely regarded as one of the best bullpen arms in baseball. Since the beginning of 2019, Hendriks has gone 19-12 with a 2.26 ERA, a 0.88 WHIP and 359 strikeouts in 239 innings while racking up 114 saves.
While the Mets already have an All-Star closer in Diaz, acquiring Hendriks would give them a lethal 1-2 punch at the end of games. Having Hendriks and Diaz back-to-back would effectively shorten games by two innings, giving New York arguably the best reliever tandem in baseball.
Hendriks, 33, is still under team control through 2023 and has a team option for 2024. The Mets would likely need to sacrifice a significant prospect package to acquire him, as the White Sox also have their eyes on contending for a championship next year.
If New York does end up landing Hendriks, the team will be even better positioned to win the 2023 World Series. The Mets are currently tied for the fourth-best World Series odds on FanDuel Sportsbook's MLB odds.
