Mets Get Disappointing Jacob deGrom Injury Update

A lot has gone wrong for the New York Mets in 2021 and it's easy to point to Jacob deGrom's injury as a jumping off point for this bad play down the stretch. When deGrom first landed on the injured list back in July, the Mets were up 4.5 games in the NL East.
Now, as the season winds down, the Mets find themselves nearly 10.0 games out of first place. Adding insult to injury, New York recently revealed that their four-time All-Star won't pitch again in 2021.

Jacob deGrom Injury Update
It was a bit of a late-season push, but the Mets held onto some hope that deGrom would suit up for another outing or two prior to the end of the season. However, those hopes were dashed on Tuesday when manager Luis Rojas explained that deGrom is fully shut down for the remainder of 2021.
“He would be fine to pitch, but there’s no sense to it.”

Rojas did explain that deGrom's health is in a good spot, but his official shut down is more an exercise of caution. Instead of cutting his rehab assignment short for a symbolic outing at the MLB level, the Mets would like to see their ace go through his process in full.
For now, Mets fans will have to wait until 2022 to see the most talented pitcher in baseball take a spot on the mound.
