Kristaps Porzingis had a rough night on Tuesday. His play was putrid, going 2-10 from the field, 1-4 from beyond the arc and totaled only 9 points in 20 minutes of action. He only got 20 minutes of action because he left the game with a back injury.

Kristaps Porzingis Injury Update

The severity of the injury is not yet known, but head coach Jason Kidd didn't seem too alarmed about it after the game, saying Porzingis would be "fine."

Dallas traded away a lot of its future assets for Porzingis, and they can't afford for their second-best player to be missing significant time due to injury. Not if Dallas wants to become a serious title contender, at least.

On the flip side, the Mavericks can't afford for Porzingis to play that poorly either when healthy. Porzingis has a history of back issues, and those issues become more concerning when the player in question is 7-foot-3 inch big man that relies on his athleticism and shot-making ability.

Back injuries are always better to play safe, so it wouldn't be a surprise to see Porzingis miss a game or a few. However, based on Kidd's reaction it also wouldn't be a shock to see him suit up for the Maverick's next game on Thursday night.

It's certainly a situation to monitor as more info is likely to come out on Wednesday afternoon or Thursday morning.
