Matt Ryan Rumored to Want Lengthy Deal From Falcons After Deshaun Watson Debacle
By Larry Rupp

The Atlanta falcons took a big swing and a miss when it came to the idea of trading for quarterback Deshaun Watson this offseason. The decision to meet with him has seemingly left Matt Ryan a bit disgruntled as rumors have it the veteran signal-caller now wants a brand new lengthy deal in Atlanta.
He wants a new contract. Heard from league sources his agent wants 3 years on a brand, new deal.

Ryan is reportedly in search of a new three year contract in a move that would lock down his starting job with the Falcons. The 36-year-old is currently under contract through the 2023 season with scheduled cap hits of $48.7 million and $43.6 million. It's obviously not about the money at this point.
It's much more about having the franchise commit to him and showcase their trust. While Ryan is nearing the end of his NFL career, the 14-year pro was not bad any any means in 2021. He finished 11th in the NFL in passing yards (3,968) despite having limited offensive weapons in front of him.
The only thing hurting Ryan's case is the fact that the Falcons have not made the playoffs since 2017. Atlanta has posted a losing record in each of the last four seasons and cannot seem to compete with the rest of the NFC South division.
This is a storyline to keep an eye on as the NFL Draft creeps up at the end of April. The Falcons could easily opt to deal Ryan to a QB-needy team and start fresh by selecting a new one with the No. 8 overall pick. No matter what, things need to be ironed out in Atlanta before Week 1 rolls around.
The Falcons currently have odds set at +2800 to win Super Bowl 57, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
