The Indianapolis Colts backfield looked like a crowded one heading into the 2020 NFL season, with Marlon Mack, Nyheim Hines and rookie Jonathan Taylor competing for looks.

In the first half of Week 1's game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, Mack may have suffered a torn Achilles tendon, however, changing the look of this backfield dramatically.

Taylor's fantasy outlook would get a huge boost, and Hines should be a popular Week 2 waiver wire target if the fear is confirmed.

Jonathan Taylor Fantasy Outlook

The concern about Taylor's fantasy outlook this offseason was that he would start the year behind Mack on rushing downs and Hines on receiving downs.

With no more Mack, Taylor will immediately take over early down duties as the primary runner in the Colts backfield. A two-time 2,000-yard rusher at Wisconsin, Taylor is a top RB prospect, and he has the potential to do some real damage as a lead back.

Losing receiving work to Hines does limit his ceiling some, however.

Nyheim Hines Waiver Wire Fantasy Outlook

HInes' value doesn't change as drastically as Taylor's, but he does get a big boost. Already with 1 touchdown when Mack was still playing, Hines also finished off the drive when Mack got hurt, adding a second TD.

Playing in the red zone gives Hines some intriguing TD upside, and with a rookie leading the backfield, Hines could also get some more rushing work than was projected before the season.

His receiving workload should also be safe. Hines had more receptions in the 2019 season alone (44) than Taylor had in his entire three collegiate seasons (42).

Taylor probably isn't on the waiver wire, but it's certainly worth taking a look and making him a top priority waiver add this week if he is. You can also now feel good about plugging him into your starting lineup in Week 2.

Hines is very likely to be available, and he is going to be a strong add this week, particularly in PPR leagues.
