Starting pitcher Yusei Kikuchi has been a key part of the Seattle Mariners' solid start to the season. Kikuchi owns a 6-4 record with a 3.48 ERA and 98 strikeouts across 16 starts, which earned him his first-ever All-Star nod this year.
However, Kikuchi's appearance in the All-Star Game may be in jeopardy after he hit the injured list on Sunday.
Yusei Kikuchi Injury
Kikuchi landed on IL after displaying a sympton of COVID, according to the Seattle Times' Ryan Divish. That news should call some fans' nerves after it seemed like an injury popped out of nowhere for the starter. Also, there's optimism that Kikuchi can appear in the All-Star game if he produces a second negative test.
This brief injury scare will likely turn out to be nothing for Kikuchi and the Mariners. The 30-year-old Japan native looks like he'll be able to suit up in the All-Star Game, and he should be back in the rotation when play resumes following the break.
Seattle, at 48-32, is just 2.5 games back of the final Wild Card spot in the AL. They're current longshots to win the World Series at +30000 odds, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
