The Seattle Mariners are coming off a huge upset win in the AL Wild Card Series against the Toronto Blue Jays, which saw them make a miraculous comeback from an 8-1 deficit in the clinching game to advance to the ALDS. Seattle will face the Houston Astros in the second round, which begins on Tuesday.
Carlos Santana Injury Update
The Mariners received some good news on Tuesday morning ahead of Game 1 in Houston. Designated hitter Carlos Santana, who aggravated his hamstring injury over the weekend, was spotted performing baseball activities on the field before the game and appears to be trending in the right direction.
Santana has provided a big bat and veteran leadership for Seattle since being traded from the Kansas City Royals earlier this season. The 36-year-old slugger produced 15 home runs and 39 RBIs in 79 games with the Mariners during the regular season before smashing 2 extra-base hits with 3 RBIs against the Blue Jays.
It's still TBD if Santana will be in the Game 1 lineup, but the fact that he will be available for the ALDS in general is a welcomed sign.
