Luka Doncic Continues to Gain on Giannis Antetokounmpo in NBA MVP Odds

Luka Doncic, the second-year Slovenian for the Dallas Mavericks, continues to rise in the NBA MVP odds this season. At +460 to win the award, he is now only behind reigning MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo (+175), according to FanDuel Sportsbook.

Luka has dominated the floor this season for the Mavs. The 20-year-old guard has a 34.7 percent usage rate, leading to an average of 30.8 points, 9.9 rebounds, 9.6 assists and 1.5 steals per game through 18 contests. He has improved in nearly every statistical category from his rookie season.
Giannis continues to be the favorite to repeat as league MVP, and with good reason. The "Greek Freak" is averaging 31.2 points, 13.6 rebounds, 6.0 assists, 1.5 blocks and 1.5 steals per game. He has even averaged 1.4 made three-point shots per game, improving what was once seen as his Achilles' heel.
Tied with Luka for the second-best MVP odds is James Harden, who has similar stats to last season despite the addition of Russell Westbrook to the lineup. With both the Rockets and Mavericks sitting at 12-6 this season, team record could ultimately become an important factor, should the MVP race come down to Harden and Luka.

Rounding out the top-five in the MVP race includes the Lakers' duo of LeBron James (+550) and Anthony Davis (+1200).
