Logan Ryan is one of the NFL's best remaining free agents, and it's been a bit of a head-scratcher that no team has signed him yet. He's been a solid slot cornerback for years now, and that's a position of need for plenty of teams.

An interesting development about Ryan came out on Monday, though, and that could make him a great fit with the Houston Texans.

Ryan is viewing himself as a safety instead of a cornerback. Interestingly, Pro Football Focus (PFF) credited him with just 17 free safety snaps, compared to 695 as a slot cornerback last year. Safeties often cover in the slot, however, and the 152 snaps he played in the box for do suggest that he's a solid safety option.

Safety is also still a position of need for the Texans. Justin Reid is a great option at the position, but outside of Reid it's looking like Eric Murray is the top option to start. Murray received an overall grade of 62.5 from PFF in 2019, and he played even less like a safety than Ryan, with just 12 snaps at free safety and 27 in the box.

Houston also has plenty of cap space to get a deal done with Ryan, as they rank in the top half of the NFL with more than $18 million in free space.

Bill O'Brien has received plenty of criticism for his roster moves in 2020, but signing Ryan would be a strong move to cap off the offseason on a high note.
