Last Friday was an important day on the MLB's offseason calendar, marking the official arbitration-filing deadline. 200 different arbitration-eligible players around all 30 clubs reached a settled contract figure for the 2023 season.

But, that left 33 players across 19 different teams hanging in the balance. By not settling on a contract figure by the deadline, the player and team then exchange respective contract figures (what they believe the player is worth for the upcoming year). The two sides can continue negotiating this figure with the hopes of reaching a deal, but this is a common start in the steps to official arbitration hearings.

The Philadelphia Phillies were unable to reach settled contract figures with a pair of important bullpen arms.

Phillies Arbitration Players

1. José Alvarado, RP

Player Figure: $3.7 million
Team Figure: $3.2 million

2. Seranthony Domínguez, RP

Player Figure: $2.9 million
Team Figure: $2.1 million

This list includes lefty reliever Jose Alvarado and righty reliever Seranthony Dominguez. Philadelphia was slightly closer to matching numbers with Alvarado ($500,000 gap) compared to Dominguez ($800,000 gap).

Both pitchers excelled throughout the 2022 season, with Alvarado posting a 3.18 ERA and Dominguez pitching to a 3.00 ERA mark. They also both pitched exactly 51.0 innings and add important layers of depth to Philly's bullpen.

Philadelphia secured their end-of-game troubles with the trade for All-Star closer Gregory Soto, but bullpens need a number of highly effective arms. Keeping Alvarado and Dominguez happy should be a priority for the reigning National League champions.
