The Detroit Lions added DJ Chark in free agency to bolster a receiving core centered around young wideout Amon-Ra St. Brown. The moves may not stop there, though.
Detroit is reportedly hosting top WR prospect Treylon Burks for a visit ahead of the 2022 NFL Draft.
Burks is widely regarded as a lock to be selected in the first round. That makes the idea of him falling to the Lions at No. 32 seem unrealistic, but the team could always trade up if need be. Burks has the versatility to line up anywhere on offense and the power to break through tackles after the catch.
The Arkansas standout was a three-year starter and shined the brightest during his senior season. Burks racked up 1,216 yards from scrimmage and 12 touchdowns on a total of 80 touches in 2021. The 22-year-old also averaged 16.4 yards per reception across a total of 32 college games played.
Meanwhile, Detroit ranked 30th in the NFL averaging 9.8 yards per catch last season and tallied only 5 receptions of 40 or more yards. The Lions are in need of a deep threat and Burks fits the mold perfectly. His ability haul in 50/50 balls using his exceptional body control gives him a ton of upside.
Burks is also set to visit the Houston Texans and Dallas Cowboys among other NFL squads. It's clear that he is a coveted prospect and may hear his name called earlier than expected. All Lions fans can do now is simply stay patient until the 2022 NFL Draft gets underway on Thursday, April 28.
