Kevin Stefanski Tops All NFL Head Coaches in His In-Game Decision Making

After 12 straight losing seasons, Kevin Stefanski stepped in as the Cleveland Browns coach and immediately turned everything around. First came the 11-5 record and playoff appearance and now Cleveland has legit Super Bowl expectations for the 2021 season.

The talent on the roster plays a big role, but Stefanski's ability as a coach and decision-maker is plenty deserving as well. In fact, a recent study of Next Gen Stats revealed Stefanski tops all other NFL coaches with his in-game decision making, specifically on fourth down.

The study ranked all 2020 NFL coaches based on their decisions to go for it on strong fourth-down opportunities. These strong fourth-down opportunities are defined by "the value of going for it is at least 2 percentage points."

In his first NFL season as a head coach, Stefanski ranked the clear-cut No. 1 decision maker after notching a 79% optimal fourth-down choices. In fact, he was presented with 14 total strong fourth-down opportunities and chose to correctly go for it 11 of those times.

The next highest-rated coach on this list is John Harbaugh of the Baltimore Ravens, who only successfully made 69% of the correct fourth-down decisions.

It's just another check mark in Stefanski's and the Browns' favor. Cleveland enters the year with eighth-best odds (+1600) to win Super Bowl 56, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
