The New York Giants selected wide receiver Kadarius Toney with the No. 20 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. It was a mildly surprising pick given that New York brought in Kenny Golladay to headline what was an already-loaded skill-position group this offseason.
Still, with Toney now in the mix, the Giants have one of the most talented wide receiver groups in the league. But don't just think of Toney as a conventional receiver. Giants head coach Joe Judge spoke about the rookie's role in the upcoming season, and it sounds like the team is going to use Toney in a variety of ways in 2021.
There's going to be some things you'll see that may look similar what to what he did in college, although it's different systems... [We will] make sure we create enough versatility in his game to play him in different spots ... but also we'll have to change our system like we do with everything to cater to our players.- Joe Judge

Toney did a lot of work on gadget plays like jet sweeps and screens with the Gators, and it sounds like Judge will be giving him a healthy diet of those at the NFL level as well.
This is a really smart way to maximize one of the most dynamic receivers in the draft. Toney handled at least 12 rushing attempts in all four of his collegiate seasons, turning 66 carries into a whopping 580 rushing yards (8.8 yards per carry) while adding 2 TDs. It's great to see Judge tailoring his offense to Toney's skill set, rather than asking him to fit into a role he may not be suited for.
Of course, he's no slouch as a traditional wideout, having racked up 70 receptions for 984 yards and 10 touchdowns in 2020 at Florida.
If Toney looks anything like he did with the Gators in 2021, he could be a dark horse Rookie of the Year contender. FanDuel Sportsbook currently gives Toney +6000 odds of taking home the hardware this season.
