It's been over a week since the Houston Astros placed five players on the COVID-19 injured list, including second baseman Jose Altuve. However, things might be looking up for the Astros and their star player.

Alex Bregman and Yordan Alvarez were two players that returned from the COVID-19 IL earlier this week and it's looking like Altuve could be next.

Astros beat reporter Brian McTaggart reported on Thursday that the team's manager, Dusty Baker, announced that Altuve could be activated either this weekend or early next week. "We miss [Altuve] tremendously," Baker said, according to McTaggart.

Jose Altuve Rumors

The Astros really could use Altuve's help. They've struggled since putting those five players on the COVID-19 IL on April 16, going 1-4 in that span. The Astros now sit at the bottom of the AL West with a 7-10 record, four games back of the first-place Oakland Athletics.

After a disappointing 2020 campaign, Altuve has turned it around this season. Before exiting the lineup, he had a slash line of .318/.380/.835 through 44 at-bats. His improved hitting led to him recording 3 doubles, a home run and 5 RBI. While that may not be the greatest start he's had to a season, it's still encouraging to the Astros after people thought Altuve was on the decline after last season.

Altuve's eventual return should help the Astros climb back into the playoff race. According to FanDuel Sportsbook, they have +170 odds of winning the AL West and +1800 odds to win the World Series.
