Jonathan Davis Gives Touching Goodbye to Lorenzo Cain
The Milwaukee Brewers made the difficult decision to designate veteran Lorenzo Cain for assignment on Saturday after he hit the 10-year MLB service mark. It's hard to imagine Milwaukee's outfield without Cain after his leadership there the past several years, but now it's on the likes of Tyrone Taylor and Jonathan Davis to carry the torch.
Davis had nothing but great things to say about Cain as a person and player following the news.
Davis highlighted that Cain was a "rock" for many players and congratulated him on reaching the rare mark of 10 years of service. He praised Cain for being a "great guy, great teammate, great clubhouse guy" and made it clear he doesn't feel like he'll be taking the veteran's spot given how much of an impact the two-time All-Star had on this team.
However, it was Davis who started in center field for the Brewers on Saturday following Cain being DFA'd. The accomplished veteran's departure clears the way for Davis, who's been a journeyman in the majors, to potentially nab a starting role.
It'll be on Davis and Taylor to prove themselves worthy of following up the former World Series and Gold Glove winner in center field.
