Each passing day brings us one step closer to the 2022 NFL season, meaning San Francisco 49ers fans desperately want to know what's going on with star wideout Deebo Samuel. Some rumors point to him wanting to leave the team while others have him staying, leaving everyone wanting some clarity.
The fanbase got their wish on Wednesday night when 49ers general manager John Lynch commented on Samuel's situation at a Dwight Clark Legacy Series event. Fortunately, Lynch's statement is exactly what the San Francisco faithful needed.
Deebo Samuel 49ers Rumors
Lynch said that he's excited for the 26-year-old wide receiver to "be with us moving forward" and that he'd "be a fool to trade" such a talented player. Considering how this news comes about a month after Samuel re-followed the 49ers on social media, things are looking good for the franchise.
As great as the 49ers' roster is, they'd be hard-pressed to replace Samuel's production. He led all of his teammates when it came to receptions (77), receiving yards (1,405) and was tied with George Kittle with a team-leading 6 touchdown receptions.
The former South Carolina product also got involved in the run game, carrying the ball 59 times for 365 rushing yards and another 8 TDs. By the time the season came to an end, the versatile pass-catcher was named first-team All-Pro and to the Pro Bowl for the first-ever time in his young career.
Aside from Samuel, Kittle and Brandon Aiyuk, the 49ers don't really have any other credible pass-catchers. That's why ironing out any issues with the Inman, SC native was necessary before the 2022 NFL season began. Now that the issue appears to be behind the franchise, it can shift its attention back to the ultimate prize: the Super Bowl.
49ers Super Bowl Odds
The 49ers are going to need Samuel to replicate last season's production if they hope to return to football's biggest stage. Things look promising if they can get there, with FanDuel Sportsbook giving them +1600 (T-No. 6) to end the season as Super Bowl LVII champions.
