J.K. Dobbins Fantasy Outlook Brings Along a Lot of Risk for 2021 Season

Despite being one of the best rushing teams in the NFL, the Baltimore Ravens failed to have any running back finish among the top 20 in 2020 PPR scoring. Second-year player J.K. Dobbins will look to buck that trend, but he brings along a lot of risk with his draft price in 2021.

J.K. Dobbins Fantasy Outlook
Dobbins has an average draft position of No. 31 overall and No. 17 among RBs, according to FantasyPros. Fantasy managers need to be careful as Dobbins has low-end RB2 written all over him.
Dobbins racked up 805 rushing yards and 9 touchdowns during his rookie season while averaging 6.0 yards per carry. The downside from a fantasy football perspective was his lack of impact in the passing game. Dobbins saw just 24 targets in 15 games played and hauled in 18 of them for 120 yards.
Reports are Dobbins is working on that area of his game during training camp. The only problem is that quarterback Lamar Jackson simply doesn't target his running backs much at all. In fact, the Ravens finished second-to-last in the NFL with only 62 RB targets during the 2020 season.
It doesn't help Dobbins that his backup, Gus Edwards, could be a starter on many NFL teams. Edwards has rushed for over 700 yards in each of his first three NFL seasons and scored 6 touchdowns last season. He also received 10 more carries than Dobbins and is sure to challenge for snaps once again in 2021.
The rushing abilities of Jackson will always take away from any kind of substantial impact a Ravens running back can have. In fact, the fourth-year quarterback led the team with 159 rushing attempts last season.
The situation in Baltimore does not scream RB1-type production for the 22-year-old. His value may come down to his ability to get in the end zone, which isn't something fantasy managers can bank on each week.
Dobbins checks in at RB16 in The Duel's 2021 fantasy football rankings.
