After a 2-14 finish to the 2020 NFL season, the New York Jets are hoping to find more success in the upcoming campaign. As the team continues to iron out the kinks at training camp, the Jets have had to practice without defensive tackle Quinnen Williams, who broke his foot during a workout back in May and required surgery to fix it.

Fortunately, it's looking like Williams will finally be ready to practice this week. On Monday, Jets head coach Robert Saleh told reporters that the 23-year-old DT will be participating in a "mock practice" later this week to help him get back into gameday shape. Saleh added that Williams timetable is right on schedule. All in all, this is some encouraging news for Jets fans.

Saleh said that the mock practice/game will take place on Friday, which should shed more light on how Williams is progressing.

"I think we're projecting to get [Williams] through a 'mock game' on Friday, or mock practice I should say from a rep standpoint. I had a great talk with him this morning, he's in great spirits and ready to go"

The former third overall pick at the 2019 NFL Draft, Williams stepped up in his sophomore season last year. He started in all 13 games that he played in, finishing the campaign with 55 total tackles (10 for a loss), 7.0 sacks, 3 passes defended and 2 forced fumbles. While he didn't earn any individual accolades, he was certainly one of the lone bright spots on a mediocre Jets defense that allowed 28.6 points per game in 2020 (26th).

If that New York wants to win more than two games this season, it's going to need Williams and the rest of the defensive core to be at the top of their games. Unfortunately, the Jets still have their doubters as FanDuel Sportsbook is projecting them to be the worst team in the AFC East once again, giving them just +1600 odds to win their division.
