Jeremy Chinn is coming off of a stellar rookie season for the Carolina Panthers. Chinn proved his penchant for making plays while suiting up at linebacker in Carolina, eventually finishing second in Defensive Rookie of the Year voting.

However, at 220 pounds, he's undersized when compared to traditional LBs. And he's making a big change for the upcoming season as a result.

Jeremy Chinn Safety

Panthers head coach Matt Rhule revealed that the plan is to move Chinn from linebacker to safety in 2021 due to his size. Chinn actually played safety in college at Southern Illinois and registered some snaps there as a rookie. For the young stud, though, he knows he'll keep up his playmaking wherever.

"And as far as making plays, I feel like they can be made at either position. When you're a linebacker you're a little closer to the ball and a little closer to the line of scrimmage. When you're a safety you can also make plays on the ball in the air."

Chinn will form a safety duo with Juston Barris in the Panthers' revamped secondary that also features No. 8 pick Jaycee Horn and free-agent signing A.J. Bouye.

The second-year player is sure to make his presence felt even as he changes position. He racked up 5 pass defenses, 2 forced fumbles, 2 fumble recoveries (both for touchdowns) and 1 interception in 2020.
