Jaquelin Roy Scouting Report
Jaquelin Roy was, by far, one of LSU's most consistent tacklers in 2022. The powerful DL racked up 49 total tackles and 25 solo tackles over 13 games. For reference, he tallied 48 and 21, respectively, in 18 games over the previous two campaigns combined. He also finished his final season as a Tiger with half a sack and a fumble recovery.
Roy's impressive frame (6-foot-3, 305 pounds) played a key role in his success at LSU. He also has a non-stop motor to drive his frame, allowing him to use his impressive strength without tiring out. While he doesn't have the best/most pass rush moves, he still has enough power to occasionally get at opposing quarterbacks.
Some scouts are concerned about Roy's lack of experience given that he only had one full year as a college starter. His combine performance was also underwhelming, which may have caused his stock to take a hit.
Jaquelin Roy NFL Draft Prediction
Jaquelin Roy has shortcomings, but his strengths far outweigh his weaknesses. He's built to have success on the interior of any defensive line he joins. If he irons out the kinks in his game, it might not be long before he's ready for a starting job.
Roy seems like a perfect fit for a team like the Houston Texans. After Houston allowed the most rushing yards in the league last season, Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans told reporters in March that he wants to build the D-line "from inside out." It sure seems like Roy fits that need after his latest campaign.
With two earlier picks in the third round, it'd be in Houston's best interest to use one on the LSU product.
Prediction: Houston Texans (Round 3, 65th overall)
