The Jacksonville Jaguars will look to take a next step with Trevor Lawrence in 2022, but they will have to do so without one of their starting offensive linemen. Center Brandon Linder recently announced his retirement from the NFL in order to move on to the next stage of his life.

Linder has been snapping the ball on offense for eight years since being drafted in the third round back in 2014. The 30-year-old played in a total of 88 regular season games and three playoff contests during that span. Injuries have limited him to just 18 games over the last two seasons, though.

The Jaguars are left scrambling a bit as Linder was in competition to grab the starting gig once again in training camp. After all, he allowed just three sacks in over 2,000 snaps played since the start of the 2019 season. Moving eight-year pro Tyler Shatley to center is the logical next step for the franchise.

It's worth noting that Jacksonville still has just north of $10.6 million in available cap space and could opt to bring in a free agent. Veterans like Matt Paradis and J.C Tretter are likely the best options in that scenario. The other route they could take is drafting a young lineman in the 2022 NFL Draft.

For now, the Jaguars will continue putting together the safest protection possible for second-year quarterback Trevor Lawrence. Jacksonville has the pieces in place to bounce back in the fall, yet remain a long shot to win Super Bowl 57 with odds set at +8000, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
